Capacity is a simplified upper bound using equal-sized members. RAID does not replace backup. Failure tolerance describes member loss, not controller failure, silent corruption, operator error, malware, or site loss. RAID-Z results exclude ZFS metadata, slop space, padding, ashift, and record-size effects.
